Firefighters Halloween Ball '08

Benefiting the Crisis Center of Birmingham



This year's Firefighters Halloween Ball will be Saturday, October 25, at Pub 261 in Pelham. The party starts at 7pm and it's for a good cause... as well as a good time.

Georgia Road House Fire

Birmingham Fire & Rescue

Birmingham firefighters responded to a reported house fire on Georgia Road. Upon arrival, the first due company reported smoke and fire showing.

A witness on the scene stated that a disabled person had been in the home but was rescued by a neighbor.

A quick stop was put on the fire and, fortunately, no one was injured.

Carraway hospital closing doors after 100 years

Physicians Medical Center Carraway



The Birmingham News reports:

Physicians Medical Center Carraway is closing its doors after 100 years in business.

The cash-strapped hospital is closing its emergency department today and is not taking any new patients, the board communicated in a written statement. The hospital will file for bankruptcy protection "to ensure patient care and the orderly shutdown of the facility," the statement said.

Car Goes Off Red Mountain

Birmingham Fire & Rescue

Birmingham Fire & Rescue responded to 21st Street South at Vulcan on a report of a vehicle that had gone off the mountain. Upon arrival, Birmingham found a car down the side of the mountain with a patient inside. Crews worked quickly to set up a rope system and lower a rescuer down to the patient.

The coordinated efforts of all the companies on the scene made it possible to bring the patient up safely for transport.
