Bessemer Live Burn - Day 2

Bessemer Fire & Rescue

Wednesday was the second day of live burns for the 2006 Rookie School class at Bessemer Fire & Rescue. The house donated for the second day's burn was a two story house across the street from where Tuesday's live burn occurred.

Like Tuesday, the class did evolutions in the burning house before it got to the point where the house was allowed to burn down.

A special thank you to Bessemer Fire & Rescue for all they did to make my two day visit with them a pleasure. I really enjoyed seeing all my buddies from "back in the day."

Bessemer Live Burn - Day 1

Bessemer Fire & Rescue

Bessemer Fire & Rescue is in the last week of their 2006 Rookie School with today being an exciting day... the class's first live burn. The class has put in a lot of hard work, as well as many long hours of study, to get to this point.

When the class graduates, they will have gone through all the necessary training to be certified as a firefighter.

During today's exercise, the class was taken through the burning house in teams of two with an instructor, so they could get the feel of what it's like to have fire rolling over their heads. Once they made it out, several of the firefighters mentioned how extremely hot the tongue-n-groove ceiling made it inside by trapping in the heat.

Congratulations to all the graduates!

Note: This house was donated for training. The object wasn't to extinguish the blaze.
