UAB Automobile Fire

Birmingham Fire & Rescue

Engine 2 responded to an automobile fire at the corner of 6th Avenue and 21st Street South. When the call went out, I was only a few blocks away and could see the heavy smoke.

As I started taking pictures, I must have inadvertently hit the settings on my camera because the first half of the shots were way over exposed. Figures, huh? I still managed to come away with several decent shots.

The fire was in front of Amsouth Bank and, of course, the people inside had to come out and watch. They changed their minds when the tires started blowing. When something in the engine compartment blew and sent a piece of metal 20 feet up in the air, the rest of them moved away.

Engine 2's crew moved fast and had the fire out in a matter of seconds.

Memorial Day 2005

Memorial Day 2005

Thank you to all the members of our military, past and present, who have risked it all and given of themselves to protect and defend our great nation. Words could never repay all that we owe you but I hope my appreciation helps you know how much you mean to us.

God bless you and God bless your families. You are truly heroes.

Neal Vickers, from the Paul Finebaum Radio Network, did a special essay that is fitting for today. You can listen to it here:
