Birmingham House Fire

800 Block of 11th Street North

Talk about being in the right place at the right time!

I was on my way to Station 1 to see if my old partner, Donald, wanted to go to lunch when I noticed smoke a few blocks over. I thought, "that's just someone burning trash."

As I sat at the light, the smoke grew pretty fast. I starting thinking that this was no trash fire. It was only 5 or 6 blocks away, what would it hurt to take a look and make sure? As I rounded the corner, fire was starting to roll out of the front of an abandoned house.

I called Fire Alarm on my cell phone, told them about the fire and then set up to take pictures and video.

Engine 14 was there in what seemed like less than a minute. Very fast! But hey... it's Birmingham's Bravest!

Engines 14, 6, 2, 1's Heavy Rescue, Rescue 6 and Battalion 2 made the run. The video will be on the main page as soon as I get done with editing.

One of my pictures was used by the Birmingham News! You can see it in Saturday's (07.24.2004) paper. I don't know if I can post it because they paid for it. It was one just like this one, though...

One firefighter was admitted to HealthSouth for dehydration. I pray he's back to 100%, right away.

Hooper City House Fire

North Birmingham

A great job getting on this one quickly by Birmingham's Bravest. News reports stated that there was a man in a wheelchair trapped inside. Engines 13, 6, Quint 1, 1's Heavy Rescue, Rescue 13, Rescue 6(?) and Battalion 2 were there when I got there. If I left one out, let me know...

The video will be on the main page when I get done with editing.

Irondale MVA

Grants Mills Road

Irondale Engine 2 at a two car MVA on Grants Mills Road across from the Auto Mall (@ I-459)...

Irondale Police Officer working the wreck...

The way Irondale incorportated the flag into their cars is awesome...

Behind the wreck scene was one of the largest flags I've ever seen!  The picture doesn't do it justice.  It was a "Garrison Flag"...
