Wildland Firefighting Class

Pelham Fire & Rescue
Alabama Forestry Commission


Pelham Fire Department and the Alabama Forestry Commission are currently conducting a class for certification in Wildland S-190 and Wildland S-130.

Municipalities participating in the class include:
  • Alabaster Fire & Rescue
  • Birmingham Fire & Rescue
  • Cahaba Valley Fire & Rescue
  • Calera Fire & Rescue
  • Pelham Fire & Rescue
Yesterday, the class spent the day conducting a live burn off the Yellow Trails at Oak Mountain State Park. Mark Puccio is attending the class for Birmingham Fire & Rescue and shares the following pictures. Thank you, Mark!

MVA Rollover With Entrapment

Birmingham Fire & Rescue

Birmingham firefighters responded to an MVA involving a car that had rolled over and trapped a person inside. After working to free the patient from the entrapment, she was transported to the hospital.

Center Point House Fire

Center Point Fire & Rescue

On January 1, Center Point firefighters responded to a house fire on Shane Circle in Clay. Upon arrival, firefighters found a split level house with fire and heavy smoke showing. To complicate matters, there were strong, shifting winds and freezing conditions.

Center Point firefighters did a great job of quickly jumping on the fire and fighting it but there are some that just can't be saved. This was one of them.

New Rehab Unit Delivered

Jefferson County EMA
Birmingham Fire & Rescue


The Jefferson County EMA and Birmingham Fire & Rescue took delivery of a new rehabilitation unit which will be placed in service at Birmingham Station 31. The new unit, which was painstakingly specked out, will be a vital tool when it comes to major incidents and disasters.

Just a few of the necessities that will be available through this new unit include:
  • Heated/cooled portable command tent
  • Heated/cooled portable rehab tent
  • Heated/cooled indoor sleeping for up to 100 firefighters
  • Hot/cold shower
  • Hot/cold sinks
  • Rescue equipment
  • Heavy duty mist fans
  • Power generators
  • Onboard refrigerator
  • Nourishment storage
  • Scene lighting
  • Built-in awning
Congratulations to everyone at the Jefferson County EMA and Birmingham Fire & Rescue in the acquisition of such a needed piece of equipment!
