Police Explorer Competition

Alabama Law Enforcement Exploring Academy

This year's Alabama Law Enforcement Exploring Academy was held in June. Police Explorers from Birmingham, Jefferson County SO, Shelby County SO, Calera, Pell City, Pamama City, Pensacola and Dalton, GA. were at Fort McClellan for an entire week of training.

Birmingham Fire & Rescue medics and Explorers were on stand by in case they were needed.

Hurricane Gustav Evacuees in Town

Hurricane Gustav

Approximately 3,000 evacuees from Hurricane Gustav arrived in town and have been being sheltered in various locations in and around Birmingham. Below are a few pictures of some of the people and units involved. There are certainly more that are rotating through over time.

Heroes and Hooks Fishing Tournament

Warrior River (Howton’s Camp)

Heroes and Hooks Fishing Tournament

Date: September 12, 2008
Location: Warrior River (Howton’s Camp)
Eligibility: Police & Fire
Entry fee: $60 per boat (includes big fish)

Tournament Rules:

At least 1 person in the boat must be Police Officer of Firefighter
Tournament hours are from safe daylight until 2:00 p.m.
All fish brought to the weigh-in (except trophy bass) will be released
Only largemouth and spotted bass will be weighed
Minimum length to be weighed shall be 12 inches on Golden Rule
Anyone weighing in a fish smaller than 12 inches will be penalized by culling his or her largest fish
There is a 5 fish limit
No Trolling, No Jiggerpoling, No Live Bait
No fishing within 150 feet of another boat
Must wear life jacket and kill switch when main motor is running
No alcoholic beverages allowed during tournament
A maximum of 2 dead fish will be allowed with a penalty of 1 lb. per dead fish
Any conditions arising which are not covered be the above rules will be resolved by the tournament committee, whose decision will be final
