Line of Duty Death : Crossville Firefighter Cody Renfroe

Crossville Firefighter Cody RenfroeCrossville Firefighter Cody Renfroe, 24, died battling a house fire yesterday.

According to reports, Renfroe went into a burning structure on County Road 482 in Crossville with another firefighter believing there was a person trapped. When the other firefighter's air pack alarm sounded, he had to leave, believing Renfroe was behind him.

Renfroe had actually stayed behind.

Fellow firefighters later found his body.

Renfroe, who was seeking a job with a full-time department, had been a member of the Crossville Fire Department for two years.

God rest his soul and comfort his family and friends. He will be missed.

Northport Fire & Rescue responded to a motorcycle fire on October 22. Upon arrival, Engine 3 found a motorcycle fully involved.

James William Wallace

James William Wallace, age 66, of Center Point passed away on October 22, 2008.

James attended Woodlawn High and was in the first graduating class of Banks High School. He earned a BA of Business Administration degree from the University of Montevallo and degree of Fire Science from Athens State College.

In 1965, James W. Wallace and John D. Wallace formed a volunteer fire department for the Center Point area and established the first fire district for an unincorporated area in the State of Alabama. This fire district grew today what is known as The Center Point Fire Department, with four stations serving 60,000 residents.

James Wallace was an Assistant Fire Chief and Fire Marshall for the Center Point Fire Department. Also, he served as Captain and Fire Marshall for the Mountain Brook Fire Department.

He was the owner of Wallace Super Gym. In his spare time he served as a referee for high school football games and competed in bodybuilding contests He won Mr. USA Masters 1993-1996 and placed third in Mr. Universe in 1996.

Mr. Wallace is preceded in death by his parents, John Duncan Wallace, Carol Reeves Wallace, and brother, John D. Wallace, Jr. James is survived by his sons, James William Wallace, Jr. (Jimmy) and Michael Wayne Wallace; grandson, Christopher Chase Wallace; sister, Pattie Wallace Windham and (Mickey Windham) and number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 27, 2008 from 12:00-1:00 P.M.

Funeral Services will begin at 1:00 P.M. in the chapel at Ridout's in Trussville. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Center Point Fire Department and the Mountain Brook Fire Department.

God rest his soul and comfort his family. He will be missed.
