New UAB ER

5th Avenue & 18th Street South

Medics will enter the ER ramp off 5th Avenue South. In the shot below, 5th Avenue South is seen on the left and 18th Street South is on the right...

The ENTRANCE sign on the side of the building is covered up in this shot but it shouldn't be too long before they're ready...

Interstate Fire Cleanup

Crews got started removing the Interstate bridge before the melted truck was even gone. Below are some pictures of the progress they had made by noon, today. Just over 24 hours since the incident.

Gasoline Tanker Fire

Malfunction Junction

An early morning accident tied up traffic when a gasoline tanker-truck flipped over and erupted in flames. The crash caused a fire that consumed about 9,000 gallons of fuel. Contractors have already starting removing the burned bridge because large chunks of the bridge were falling to the interstate below.

Birmingham School Fire

Phillips High School

There was a small fire at Phillips High School this morning. Workers caught some insulation on fire while they were welding. The fire started in the lunch room and was confined to that area.
