Other departments across the state will also be roof-sitting on Walmarts to participate in the “2009 Cops on Top” fundraiser.

Who: Homewood Police Department, who will be joined by Birmingham officers
When: Friday, April 24 at 5:30am until Saturday, April 25 at 4:00pm
Where: Walmart, 209 Lakeshore Parkway, Homewood, Alabama

Anyone wishing to contribute to “Cops on Top” is asked to go to one of the participating locations or you may donate to your favorite location by going to www.FirstGiving.com

Attorney General Troy King will be visiting each site on Friday April 24th to show his support of the Torch Run and Special Olympics.

Background:

The Law Enforcement Torch Run began in 1981 as a way to involve local law enforcement in the community and to support the Special Olympics. The Alabama Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is now part of an international movement and the largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle for Special Olympics. More that 85,000 officers around the world have carried the “Flame of Hope” across 35 countries.

Homewood Police Department recognized the importance of getting involved in the community and saw the need to raise funds and awareness for the Special Olympics and the athletes involved. The Homewood Police Department has organized the “2009 Cops on Top” event to promote the Law Enforcement Torch Run and to raise money for Special Olympics.
