July 4th House Fire

Birmingham Fire & Rescue

July 4th, Birmingham firefighters responded to a house fire in the 300 blk of 14th Court, North. The vacant 1-story, wood-framed house was a total loss.

The fire was found to have been started by children playing with fireworks.

No injuries reported.

I mean this with the utmost respect, but if the surrounding structures can be protected, why not just let these abandoned houses burn to the ground so that the dopers and other rats have one less place to go? I realize this is someones property but it is obvious they do not care about it.

Yes, respectfully I agree this house should have already been torn down. Why risk injury to those firemen by doing an interior attack on a structure that looked unstable before the fire. Protect exposures.

While I didnt make this fire, unfortunately in bham many "vacant" structures are occupied by vagrants. Not that I like doing a search in an old house for a drug addict, but if the structure is stable, there are many situations that we encounter where an offensive attack is needed due to this crappy fact. I am a strong advocate of ff safety and survival, but its kind of a catch 22

I made the previous post about the structure should be torn down...And by no means do I want anyone think im questioning judgement. I truely understand. And my hat is off to all you guys with BFRS, you all do an awesome job!!!

You guys keep going at each other about what side of town burns what down and which side of town is the best. Come over the mountain and see what you do. You B'ham fireman get to be real fireman all we get to do is teach CPR and install car seats and all of our training goes to hell. You guys get to use yours.
