Hey Dave, why is there a charged line laying on the ground for what looks like a single vehicle MVA?

I can't speak for Birmingham but that's what most departments do when you have an MVA with someone trapped. The number of vehicles doesn't matter. It could be 1 vehicle or it could be 100. Better safe than sorry. Again, that's me speaking... not Birmingham.

It's smart to do it that way. If the vehicle were to say.. catch fire some how. Instead of waiting to get an extinguisher or pull a hose. they have a charged (looks like a 3" line) ready to go. as Dave put it.. Better safe than sorry.

For what its worth our department's (Cobb County, Ga.)Operating Guidelines require us to put a line (1 3/4")on the ground for any extrication so we'll have it ready just in case. I wouldn't be surprised if B'ham has a similar philosophy.
