Bessemer Rescues

Bessemer Fire & Rescue

The first picture of Bessemer Rescue 5 is one that I took back in 1989. The current Rescue 4 & 5 are red.

These are becoming a rare sight, as Bessemer seems to be moving toward using ALS engines for medical calls.

First response units seem to be a dying breed in general. It seems like everyone is moving toward transport units. Even if they aren't actually transporting as a general practice they at least want to be transport "capable". What would Johhny and Roy think?!?!

Both of those "newer" rescue trucks are old. Rescue 5 was around when I was doing rotations in 94-95.
Lots of depts, if not transporting, and moving rescue truck manpower to engines.

Well judging from the fact that you hear a helluva lot of "No Ambulance Available" or "Ambulance cannot give ETA" squawking across scanners in Bessemer and surrounding areas they would benefit highly to have transport capability but given Bessemer's money woes and warped government I dont anticipate it anytime soon.

Please no transport units in Bessemer.

I had a chat with a couple of Bessemer firemen and they said those rescues are now air units (excepting heavy rescue, of course).
