Ruffner Mountain Fire

Irondale Fire & Rescue
Birmingham Fire & Rescue
Alabama Forestry Commission

Irondale and Birmingham responded to a large fire on Ruffner Mountain that started in a tire dump. The fire was thought to have possibly been started by surplus explosives that are still on the mountain from the early 1970's. Because of the explosives and possible mine shafts, firefighters had to be extra careful fighting the fire.

Smoke from the fire could been see for miles.

Quick work by Irondale, Birmingham and the Alabama Forestry Commission prevented the fire from spreading to the Ruffner Mountain Nature Trail. Great work!
