In the EMS field there is a shortage of EMT'S & I am cocerned that larger cities by getting into the transport business of EMS is causing a falling away of private interprise because they can not compete with local goverments....Then intern causing rural areas to suffer the shortage of EMS services or long delays, because private interprise depends on services rendered and the fees they recieve to servive & greater numbers...........JUST A THOUGHT

The book can be purchased at the Bessemer Area Chamber of Commerce, Plaza Cafe in McCalla and Hank's office at 1808 10th Ave N. Bessemer.

If you can't make it by one of those locations, Hank said that people can mail a check in the amount of $16.30 to:

Hank Tyler
1808 10th Ave., North
Bessemer, AL 35020

Be sure to include your shipping address.

I picked mine up today and was amazed at the quality of the layout and the amount of information. The stories and pictures in the book brought back a flood of memories. Anyone who worked at Hank's, A&A or Suburban is going to love this book!

Thanks, Hank!

That is the 429 that Dennis Reno had built for himself. David Little and I hit a hawk at about 120mph on I-65 in that unit.Too bad Hank's not in business because WE WERE the best at running calls and having FUN......Jim Looney

To many memories of Good Times @ Suburban and Hank's....from Fig shooting the radio and Billy backing the UAB truck into the bay doors and shooting fireworks at one another through the bay and across Vanderbuilt Rd....and...who can forget the Great times at Hank's...Charles King falling down the stairs from dispatch and the rat falling down and landing on George....and then moving into the new building on 1st ave....and who don't remember the Great Snow Storm of 93 and all the fun we had those days...

It is so great to hear about all the memories that everyone has been sharing. I have awesome memories as well. Growing up with all the people that worked with Suburban Ambulance. I just recently talked with Eugene aka Rhino, he had mentioned that there was going to be a Reunion of all the past employees, I want to say it was going to be in July, but not sure. If anyone knows the details, please let me know. Almost forgot, this is Johnny Reno, Dennis Reno is my Old Man. Would enjoy hearing from all the past employees, contact me at renoj69@msn.com. Great to hear from everyone and to read all the great stories.

I also just happened upon this site and it really has brought back found memories of Hank's. I worked from 1984 til approx. 1990 in Bessemer on 709 and Rescue 19 in Fairfield and 711. Thanks for all the memories, even the "not so fun ones". Daniese Schultz (Vann)
