Chief Bill Corbin

Ashville Fire Department

Chief Bill Corbin passed away November 12, 2005. Kelly Corbin-Milton was kind enough to share a few pictures of her father, Chief Corbin, and his service. I think the best way to honor Chief Corbin would be to share the nice letter I received from his daughter.

My Dad, Bill Corbin passed away on Nov. 12, 2005. He was former Fire Chief of Ashville. He was Chief from 1996 to 2000. In those few years he became well known throughout St. Clair Co. as well as the state. He was a role model for all of the younger people on the fire dept., as most went on to be medics and firefighters. His influence on me changed my life completely!!! I myself went back to school. He was very dedicated to his job and showed such sympathy and concern to everyone he was around.

In October of 2004 he had open heart surgery. During this they found a spot of cancer on his left lung. They said his heart was in great shape afterwards, but he would have to go through chemo and radiation for the cancer. After months of chemo and radiation tests revealed that the cancer was gone!!! He regained some of his strength and even tried to go back to work part time, but he just couldn't do as much as he used to. In October 2005 he got so sick with breathing problems that he could hardly get out of bed. November 4th he went into the hospital with pneumonia. After a few days he was getting better and then he took a turn for the worst; they discovered he had MRSA. On November 12, 2005 @ 5:05pm he was gone.

Leaving behind son, Jeffrey(Sandra) Corbin;daughters, Kelly Corbin & Kathy Corbin; grandchildren, Nikki Corbin, Matthew Corbin, Emily and Abigail Bothwell; special friend, Carolyn Lee; mother, Marie Corbin; sisters Elaine (Tim) Hyatt, and Myra Corbin; nieces, Charlane and Terri Hyatt. He went to join a son, Michael Corbin and father, Kermit Corbin.

His funeral was beautiful. Morgan Funeral Home in Attalla directed. The procession consisted of numerous fire depts. from St.Clair Co. along with Blount EMS ambulance, St Clair Co. Sheriffs Dept., Ashville PD & Steele PD. He was buried in Reeves Grove Cemetery, Ashville, AL.

We all miss him greatly and will never forget all the memories he has left with us!!
