North Shelby Fire District

North Shelby (1980's)

North Shelby is a paid fire department but they use to have volunteers, as well. That's where I got my start. I dispatched for North Shelby until I was finally old enough to be a volunteer firefighter. I wanted to work there more than any other place on earth! North Shelby and the guys out there have always been and always will be special to me.

Here's my old turnout gear... when riding on the back was still legal...




Here's a shot of us on Caldwell Mill Road as we approached Valleydale. NOTHING can make your eyes water like hearing that Federal Q scream as you move through traffic... especially, when you're riding on the tail-board...




It's hard to tell from this shot but Keith Hayes was the apparatus operator...
